Captain America

Chris Evans is a lot harder to draw than Robert Downey Jr. for some reason. After I was done drawing the portrait, I lagged for about 3 days and just stared at it because I was afraid to start painting. It was pretty daunting. I had the most trouble just painting his helmet, and it was the part that took me the longest to figure out. I took a nap after that, because I was actually getting a bit stressed out over it.

I woke up this morning feeling a bit more determined, and finished the rest of it today. I actually like how it turned out. Yay~

This project is going well. I think I will paint the Asgardians next.

Iron Man II

I think Jessy and I are going through an Avengers craze right now.

Anyway, I wanted to practice painting and used Iron Man as the subject. Found a reference from Google to create this portrait. I think the hardest part was trying to mix the right colors for the gold part of Ironman's mask...without using gold paint. At first I just added black or white to the yellow paint that I had, but it kept looking more like green vomit. I was thinking that maybe compliments would work better, so I created a purple palette to mix with the yellow. It worked out better than I thought. It also made the greenish color look less like vomit, which made me cry tears of joy.

I might paint over the background with a lighter color instead of just black, because his suit is kind of getting lost in it.

Other than that, I am happy with how the portrait turned out. (:

The Help, Skeeter (Eugenia) and Minny

This past week I've been reading the book, The Help by Kathryn Stockett. It's a good book...so, I watched the movie. Bad idea. Novels made into movies are always disappointing. Always. Btw, my favorite character was definitely Minny. Now go read a book!

Skeeter and Minny, or at least how I sorta picture them. :)

Skeeter! Her hair sounds pretty awesome in the book! :D

Sketches: May 12-18

These are a few sketches I made during the week. I have several pages full of gestures, but I decided to just post these drawings for now. Not sure if I'll make finished rendered work out of the character pieces (Marceline, Capt. America, Toph), but I am thinking about rendering the smoking divas. I have to re-draw them of course, because I sketched them without reference and they look unproportional. Sigh.

Also, for those of you who don't have the opportunity to go to drawing workshops or are too lazy to go to one, I suggest using this website I use to draw gestures:

One more for this week :P
I was bored this morning so I decided to try out my pastels that I got 7 years ago LOL I think I'll do Loki next again, scan them once I have a fixing spray and make prints 8D I'll probably tweak a few more things before I do that.

Edit 5/20/12

I scanned it! I asked Rebecca Kimmel about fixing sprays and she said not to use them on pastels so I just scanned it in as is :)

Edited contrast and saturation in photoshop~
